Low light? Oly owns it!

Picture the scene! A grey but mild afternoon, heavily overcast, spitting with rain, tree cover, a dark pond as the habitat and an almost black small mammal as the target.

These conditions could not be less favourable. I mean seriously, what did I do to deserve this?

One of my biggest criticisms of the Fuji system was its low light focusing performance. To be fair even older DSLR such as the Canon 7D had their issues in low light, especially with third party lenses.

So what could I expect from a CSC (Compact system camera) with a teeny tiny Micro 4/3 sensor?

Well.....my target showed well but briefly in probably the darkest part of the dark pond habitat.

And this was the result. For reference this photo has had the exposure lifted by 2 stops but that is it, no noise reduction, no sharpening, oh a little bit of a crop for neatness....but that's it.

The stats: 1/200, F4, ISO-400. Olympus OM-D EM-1 mk2 with 300mm F4 PRO

I am very VERY impressed.
